News from Joan!
Everyday you are alive is a Special Occasion!
The other day, even though I was just going to work in
my home office, I saw something in my closet that I usually save
to wear on special occasions. Then I thought to myself, why not
wear it, everyday I am alive is a special occasion! So I wore it
and loved looking at myself when I went into the bathroom. It felt
great to treat myself as special just because I was me and I could.
So, I encourage you to treat yourself and your family
as ‘special’ frequently. Bring your wife flowers or a small gift
for no reason except she is special. Ladies dig out the good china, glass
ware and silver once or twice a month for a special family dinner
because the whole family is special. Are their other things around
the house that you are saving for a special occasion? Maybe a picnic
basket that has not been used in years, well maybe it is time to
have picnic, even if it is on the living room floor.
Stop waiting for a Special Occasion to Celebrate yourself, your
family, friends and your life. Life is too short to wait.

Your Bucket List
With distractions from email, mobile phones, text messages and
all the other electronic wiz bang stuff that advertisers try to
get us to believe we just cannot live without, it is sometimes hard
to think more than 5 minutes ahead.
Yet without longer-term priorities, it is easy to forget that 80%
of all that stuff contributes absolutely nothing to what you really
want in your life, long or short term. I think of it as junk food
for the mind. A waste of precious time needed to focus on what is
truly important to you. Priorities are important, because when they
are foremost in your mind, you will find it easy to say no to the
things that waste your time and do not contribute to your goals.
I would like to challenge you to make a 5- and 10-year Bucket List
for your life. Suppose you knew you would be dead in 5 or 10 years.
Would that change your list? I bet it would. Now is the time to
make sure the next few years contain the things most important for
you to see, do, and accomplish.
Consider the following categories and list what you want to do
more of or do less of this year to stay on track with your Bucket
List. Add any other categories that are important to you.
Friends and Family – Build better and deeper relationships;
share time together. Let go of those relationships that do not work
or get help to work them out.
Spiritual Development – Learn, teach, and practice
Work and Career – Learn, grow, advance, and build
relationships
Health and Wellness – Get checkups for eyes, ears,
teeth, body; add healthy habits
Investments, Insurance, Wills, and Retirement –
Get professional advisers
Travel /Adventure – What do you want to see and
do?
Hobbies and Activities – Want to try something
new?
Community and Volunteering – Giving back or paying
forward.
Now that you have your list, enjoy filling up your bucket!
