Inspired Leadership

Recently, I heard a Russian journalist make an interesting comparison between the US and Russia. He said that both Russia and the US believed in equality. “The difference,” he explained, “is that in Russia the philosophic goal is to make everyone equally poor, while in America the philosophic goal is to make everyone equally rich.”

The historical conditions and the leadership in each culture set up these diverse viewpoints. Both countries were driven to revolution by oppression. In Russia, the leadership distrusted the natural drives of human nature and thus sought to create equality by suppressing free thinking, individuality, creativity, and initiative.

In America, the founding fathers believed in the innate virtue of the human spirit and sought to foster its growth. The Bill of Rights was designed to insure the right of ALL people to rise to their greatest individual potential. Granted, it took a while to get women and minorities included in that vision but, little by little, “all” is really starting to mean ALL!

No matter if one is a small business owner or an entrepreneurial empire builder, it is the vision and leadership of the owner that shapes the enterprise and its ultimate level of success.
