Do you know about
Free Cycle ?

Freecycle is a grassroots environmental movement. Its goal is to recycle and reduce waste and landfill space by connecting people who are throwing away unwanted items with others who are seeking the same items (and want to have a little fun in the process).

No item is too big or too small; but since this is a FREEcycle list and we emphasize gifting, ALL items must be 100% (that's right, you got it) free. No bartering, trading, buying or selling is allowed.

There are free cycle groups all around the world find the one nearest you.www.freecycle.org

Bringing out the Best in Yourself and Others

To bring out the best in yourself and others it is important to understand each other's natural strengths and weaknesses. For the greatest success shift your communication style, as much as possible, so the other person can receive and process your information effectively.

For example an ACTION DRIVEN person has about a two sentence attention span. They are natural leaders and want results NOW. Their favorite statements are “what’s the bottom line?” and “let’s cut to the chase!” They are often seen as domineering and insensitive to the feelings of others. They need to slow down and learn to listen more. Give them the big picture and expected results in as concise a manner as possible.

The highly ANALYTICAL person wants lots of data and is concerned about getting things RIGHT. They can be overly cautious, get stuck in the details and be too perfectionist. Analytical people are critical to the financial success of an enterprise because the devil is in the details and they attend to those details. It is equally important that you help them understand the big picture and how the details support the organization's goals.

The attention getting EXPRESSIVE creative person is a natural SALES person because networking, making friends and influencing other is their greatest strength. They are highly creative and intuitive so they often think outside the box. They can talk too much and get easily distracted so it is important to acknowledge their ideas and contributions and keep them focused on the key priorities.

The interpersonal HARMONY person is most concerned about everyone getting along. These sensitive, dependable and caring folks are the oil that make organizations run smoothly. They are vital assets in any job that requites patience, diplomacy, good humor and a willingness to help out where ever needed. Because they are people pleasers, they can be taken advantage of by others and over commit. They need help in negotiating deadlines so they manage their work without getting overwhelmed.

We all have some score in each style areas. Most people have at least two dominant styles, a few people have three dominant styles and some people have almost even scores in each area. The subtle combinations of these scores can have a significant effect on how the person interacts with others and performs work tasks.

The more you understand these differences the more successful you will be in communicating, motivating, and bringing out the best in yourself and others. Click here to print the “Understanding Style Tendencies” graphic.

A highly functional work team has a balance of all four styles. Because it takes practice and experience to interpret the scores quickly and easily it can save you time and money to use a coach or consultant who is well versed in the profile to assess the best scores for a particular situation and your company's culture. To access in depth Personal Styles Indicator (PSI) profiles for yourself and your staff click here.

Shifting your style slightly to more powerfully engage people of other styles can have a huge pay off in effectiveness, cooperation, teamwork and productivity. Teaching your staff to understand style differences, the assets each person brings to the team and how to work together more effectively can greatly improve communication and tolerance for each other's idiosyncrasies.
