10 Tips on Getting More of the Clients You Love

  1. List your five favorite clients.
  2. List the qualities and characteristics that make them your favorite clients.
  3. List any other qualities or characteristics you would like your clients to have.
  4. What needs to change? Sometimes your biggest clients are not your favorites. What would need to change to turn them into some of your favorite clients?
  5. Set boundaries. With current or future clients, what boundaries, contractual agreements, or approaches could you put in place to convert them or set them up to become favorite clients? (There are some types of clients we should fire or never work with in the first place.)
  6. Rewrite your contracts and sales pitch to attract the ideal client. Create a clear and strong intention to replace current clients who are hard to work with, are minimally profitable, or not your favorites, with high-quality new clients.
  7. Brainstorm and research. Looking at your list of favorite clients, make a list of similar companies, industries, competitors, or vendors whom you could approach.
  8. Use your network. It is said that anyone you want to know is only four phone calls away. With your list from Step 6 (above), call your favorite clients and everyone in your network and ask who they know who could introduce you to the appropriate person on your target list.
  9. Get focused and take action! Regardless of whatever else is happening in your business or life, set aside a specific time each day to make five phone calls or to take other actions which will move you toward your goal.
  10. Trash to treasures. Pass the client or prospect who is not right for you on to others in your network who would think they were great.
